SSCRC, or South Side Chicago Robotics Camp, is a summer camp we are creating to give opportunities to younger students by introducing them to STEM and FIRST. This idea has lived somewhere in the back of my mind for a while. With some inspiration and help from Team 4096, Ctrl Z, their documents and stories, this idea is closer than ever to becoming reality. The camp will be taking place at Horizon Science Academy McKinley Park and will be opened up to about 20 students from 3rd to 6th grade in the McKinley Park community for a one week session from August 20th to 24th.
We are currently in phase two, figuring out times, curriculum, counselors, and whether there will be a price. The curriculum will include what we will be doing everyday for that week along with specific details about certain challenges and what the students will be learning. After this, we’ll be emailing our team members to see who’s interested in being a counselor. We plan on having a 2:1 student counselor ratio, which means only 10 counselors will be admitted. Finally, we will need to figure out which classrooms will be used and how many other supervisors will be needed.
The last part, is phase three: The Advertising, it’ll consist of setting up the sign up form online and on paper as well as advertising in our school and other schools in the surrounding area. Perhaps even at McKinley Park. Just a reminder the camp will take place from August 20th - 24th, we cannot wait for it!
