As a senior in high-school is year it is very sad to think it is my last year on the team. I've been a part of this team for 3 years now and I have learned a lot. A list of running things that I have learned are technical things like how to build a robot, CADing part of the robot and various other things. For me what the hardest challenge was learning how to pass my knowledge to others on the team. That is why there are a few tips for any high-school seniors on how to pass on what you know to others.
Include others: what this entails is to pick a younger member interested in what you are. You should teach them what you know and become good friends and do things outside of robots together. The point is to make them feel a part of the team inside and outside of school. After that then you throw them a bone so to say and start giving them tasks to do on their own and try to not help them as much. Yet they struggle because then show that not everyone knows the answer to everything and through the struggle you learn new things and how to work as team members and ask others for help.
Assign director ships: if you can you should push people to step into the unknown. You should comfort that person and tell them that you will be there to guide them along the way. You want to make the new member really interested and show them a first hand account of what directors do. The point also should be to look out for that person and teach them little by little.
Creating guides: you should create a small guide of the area of the team you know best. The point is for a new member to be able to understand a little better and everything is organized into one place. You don't want to overwhelm the person but just give them advice and information for them to learn a lot more. The guide should allow for the new member to learn a little more first hand because then they can look back at the guide if they have questions and learn things so that way they can pass that guide to the next person.
Being a senior in highschool is really tough. Robotics is some of the most fun I have ever had and I'm going to miss it. However, that means that I still can't pass my knowledge. My advice to high school seniors this year is to pass everything you know. All the good and bad so that way the team continues to grow and get better
